Implanon Insertion & Removal | Contraceptive Care

The implanon, sometimes called ‘the Rod’ is a common, long-term, reversible contraceptive method that is available in Australia.

The single-rod etonogestrel contraceptive implant is available in Australia as Implanon NXT is long-acting (up to 3 years), at least 99.9% effective, and can be inserted/removed by a simple procedure with a GP.

The Implanon insertion procedure is a quick and simple process that can be completed in a matter of minutes. For optimal results, the implant should be inserted during the first three days of your menstrual cycle, provided that you are not pregnant. The tiny, flexible rod will be inserted into your upper arm using local anaesthesia to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.

When it comes to the lifespan of the Implanon, it should be removed or replaced after three years. However, if you have other reasons for wanting it removed earlier, this can be done using a gentle ‘pop out’ technique following a small incision made under local anaesthesia.

Worst customer service ever experienced I can’t believe how rude this receptionist lady was on the phone absolutely 0 respect she should get fired!! For managers referral this phone call was on 21/01/2025. She was being aggressive on the phone when I asked her if I can come in and then she hung up in my face. I then kept trying to call back to book an appointment as this is my local clinic and I was never answered too.

My family and I have been regulars at Altona Medical Clinic for over 20 years. Generally the service is good, but over the last 12 months trying to get an appointment is woeful. Not only must you ring at 8am for an urgent appointment, you are slotted against changing Drs. I tried today at 8am to be told no appointment for 2 days. Sadly that is pushing us out the door to alternative options. Don’t even bother if your a new patient!

Terrible experience on 20/11 with the female admin staff at kidney west. She’s rude, unhelpful, and completely disorganized. Patients deserve better care and respect, especially in a medical setting.

The admin was rude toward the person who was on the phone to have an inquiry. The admin turned around and said the person who was on the phone was having attitude. Could the admin be more patient and listen to inquire before her negative conclusion.

I haven't been a patient since August 2023 & receive a random missed call, no message left. When I contact them they said i'd seen a doctor the day earlier, was this about payment? No, I wasn't there yesterday & why has someone accessed my patient details to call me? Reception had zero idea as to why I'd been called as there were no notes on my file. I now have serious concerns about my confidential information lodged with them. After 2 hours of awaiting a reply regarding this I have decided to post this review. Beware, as they seem to be unable to explain how or why my information was used & the person on reception seemed to not even care that this was of concern.

19 years I’ve been coming to this practice with our whole family but today is my last appointment ever. On my last visit the doctor was so lacking in interest in me and the reason I was there. Today I’ve sat for 1.5 hours in the car waiting to see doctor outside because I had a fever. After an hour I phoned to be told told I’m next and doctor running an hour behind. Multiple phone calls over next 30 mins and I am repeatedly told I’m next. I’m so sick I just want to go home and crawl into bed. This is cruel and unusual punishment. I’m giving up and going home. To prove how money hungry they are - after 1 hour 40 mins waiting in car - when I phone to say I was cancelling and going to another clinic THEN the doctor can phone me within 2 mins. Review your practices. You’re a disgrace of a clinic. You won’t ever see me again

I also sat in car for over an hr, called clinic don't know when Dr will see you running late. I was very unwell, went to an emergency clinic to be told I had pneumonia. Used to be a good clinic been going to them for years, I must say my own dr is very good but now only works 2 days a week, to get an appointment when you are sick you have to book weeks ahead.sick today not in 3 weeks????????
