Cervical cancer screening
Regular cervical screening helps detect HPV (human papillomavirus) – the leading cause of cervical cancer. It’s a simple test that can be conducted by a doctor or registered nurse.
All women/people with a cervix aged 25 to 74 must get a cervical screening (CST) every 5 years.
STI screening

Confidential screening and treatment is available for common STIs including chlamydia, gonorrhoea, herpes, HIV, and syphilis.
Contraception advice
Doctors consulting from ANMH can guide you to the contraceptive option best suited to your needs. Common contraceptive methods offered at ANMH include;
- Oral contraceptives (the Pill)
- Implanon insertion/removal
- IUD insertion/removal
IUD Insertions and Removals – Hormonal & Copper
The hormonal intrauterine device (IUD) is a small contraceptive device that is put into the uterus (womb) to prevent pregnancy. They are popular in Australia, as a long-lasting, affordable, effective, and safe form of contraception.
In Australia, two main types of IUDs are available: hormonal IUDs and copper IUDs. Hormonal IUDs, such as Mirena and Kyleena, release progestogen (a type of hormone) to prevent pregnancy. Copper IUDs, like Paragard, work by releasing copper ions that interfere with sperm and egg.
In your pre-consult, you can discuss with your GP the best IUD option for you.
Implanon Insertions and Removals
The implanon, sometimes called ‘the Rod’ is a common, long-term, reversible contraceptive method that is available in Australia. Implanon NXT is long-acting (up to 3 years), at least 99.9% effective, and can be inserted/removed by a simple procedure with a GP.
The Implanon insertion procedure is a quick and simple process that can be completed in a matter of minutes. For optimal results, the implant should be inserted during the first three days of your menstrual cycle, provided that you are not pregnant. The tiny, flexible rod will be inserted into your upper arm using local anaesthesia to ensure your comfort throughout the procedure.
Management of unplanned pregnancies (Incl. Medical Termination of Pregnancy)
